Ancient India has many famous personalities. The list consists of historical figures like Kings, Travellers, Scholars in various fields, Diplomats, Viceroys, Governor Generals etc. They played a significant role in ancient history of India. The Kings played a great role in developing different parts of India, contributing major constructions, encouraging scholars and travellers and developing people’s lives. The travellers recorded their travels in India, thus giving history to the future generations. The scholars flourished spreading knowledge. The artists contributed different arts.
India has seen various dynasties rule in different parts of the country. It has assimilated different cultures, people into it. It has famous personalities like Chandragupta Maurya, Chanakya who wrote Arthashastra. There are famous personalities like Samudra Gupta of Gupta period which is called the golden age of India. Shah Jahan built the great monument Taj Mahal. Megasthenes is a great historian who visited India during the reign of Chandragupta Maurya. There are Buddhist monks like Fa-Hien, Huien Tsang, I-tsing etc. who visited India and spread knowledge. Different scholars visited India from different parts of the world and helped in exchange of knowledge and culture between India and other parts of the world. There are writers like Varahamihira who wrote Brihat Samhita, Jayadeva who composed Gita Govinda.
